Girl Gone Authentic: Introduction

Updated: Jul 1, 2019

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Denise. I’m 45 years old and am defined as many things, depending on who you talk to: Fiancee’, divorcee, mother, daughter, grandmother, granddaughter, sister, aunt, friend, employee, and co-worker. If you ask me to define myself, however, it’s not so clear-cut. I learn new things about myself all the time, so I’m hesitant give myself a label. What I am trying to do is to always be true and authentic to myself. I didn't used to struggle with this when I was younger, but I buried my real self during a 16-year-long relationship, which I will talk about in future posts.

I have four kids: three biological children (27-year-old son, 22-year-old son, 20-year-old daughter) and one “bonus” child (12-year-old daughter). I have a 6-year-old granddaughter. I am engaged to be married to a man who is truly the love of my life.

I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I love to read and listen to music. I love to spend time in antique shops and thrift stores. I enjoy my own company, so often you will find me alone.

In my blog entries, I will write about my life. That means I’ll be talking about topics like parenting, relationships/marriage, work, etc. I will talk about going through my divorce, and how even years later, I’m affected by things that happened during my first marriage. I promise you that I will always be honest in my writing, I will always be authentic, and I will try to share things I’ve learned through my life experiences.
